A complete conference agenda to discuss the future of the sector

Just like every year, the main stakeholders in the railway sector will be present at Rail Live! 2022. From senior officials of public administrations, railway operators or infrastructure managers to members of the industry.

Over three days, 250 experts from around the world will discuss current railway issues such as Cybersecurity, Global Megaprojects, Digital Transformation, Smart Mobility, Smart Infrastructures, Sustainability, and Energy among other topics.

29th November

The conference will begin on 29th November at 10:00h, focussing on different workshops related to sustainability and talents in addition to the technical visits by Adif, Renfe and Málaga Metro

30th November

The official opening will take place on 30th November at 10:00h with the welcome from Sean Willis, director of  Terrapinn, and the president of the Spanish Railway Industry Association (Mafex) Víctor Ruiz. The opening ceremony will be led by the Minister of Development, Urban Planning and Housing of The Regional Government of Andalusia, Marifrán Carazo Villalonga and the  Mayor of Málaga.

Topics and trends

Numerous topics will be addressed by the speakers during the various conferences. The topics of Rail Live! 2022 will be focused on 5G, accessibility, architecture and design, Artificial Intelligence, autonomy of the vehicles, blockchain, connectivity, stations of the future, IoT, and drones, among others. Those responsible for unravelling these topics will be the highest representatives of both public administrations and railway network operators, and of specialist companies in each of the subsectors that will present their latest developments.

Spanish Symposium 

Spain is one of the main international benchmarks in railway transport, which has one of the most modern and extensive high-speed networks and numerous metro systems in the different regions. As the host country of this important professional platform, the Rail Live! 2022 Conference has wished to include a special section to know more details of the present and future plans, as well as the role of its industry in the world and the roadmap for its international expansion.

Therefore, a Spanish symposium will be held, within the general programme, featuring the main collaborating entities of the event where different topics of interest will be presented. Among them, Adif and Adif AV innovation for the Spanish Railway Network. On the other hand, Renfe will benchmark “The future of Renfe through its Strategic Plan”. In addition, Renfe in collaboration with other operators will present innovation projects and the challenges faced by them. Junta de Andalucia moderates a panel about “A new generation of Metro: a journey towards digitalisation and sustainability”. Mafex and the Spanish Railways Foundation will offer a joint dialogue on “Innovation in rail: solving needs and boosting competitiveness”.

Finally, ICEX Spain Trade and Investment will close the forum by presenting their support for the internationalisation of companies in the railway sector.

 1st December

The 1st of December conference begins with an interesting round table at 10:00h to face the challenge of decarbonising the railway sector and doing our bit in the fight against the climate crisis. Pedro Fortea, General Director of Mafex –  Spanish Railway Industry – will moderate this round table where the following companies participate: UNIFE (The Rail Supply Industry Association), the International Union for Road-Rail Combined Transport (UIRR), the International Union of Railways, LTG Infra and Shift2Rail.

Some of the other topics that will be discussed in this day are: applications for satellite data on railway infrastructure, innovation to improve the user experience, moving from prototypes to maintenance systems based on real-world conditions and focussing on predictive maintenance by applying A.I., investment in the expansion and digitalisation of the railway infrastructure of  South-eastern Europe, or the future of asset management using quantum technology.

Innovation zone

The exhibition has its own Start-up  Village where it is possible to meet the railway leaders of the future. In this edition, Rail Live! will support the development of innovation and the SMEs in the railway sector by encouraging the event to show its solutions to young  companies that are revolutionising the industry. The start-up launch area  will allow to showcase these companies and   what their solutions, technologies and ideas can do for the different organisations that are part of the event.
