Metro network passengers expect to have mobile coverage all along their journeys, both in tunnels and in stations, regardless of their mobile phone operator. This is a real technological challenge that Cellnex is capable of solving given its extensive experience in the deployment and operation of DAS (Distributed Antenna System) multi operator in several European subways.
Thus, in Italy, Cellnex is the neutral operator of the Milan, Genoa and Brescia metros. In Spain, it is the main shareholder of Metrocall, the company responsible for the coverage of the Madrid Metro. And in France, Cellnex is working to provide mobile coverage for metro lines 16 and 17 of the Greater Paris Express – the largest infrastructure project in Europe, currently under construction -, with the first milestone set in the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
