Development of the FRMCS (Future Railway Mobile Communication System) on regional railways

por Patricia

COMSA CORPORACIÓN PARTICIPATES IN TWO EUROPEAN INNOVATION PROGRAMMES WHOSE OBJECTIVE IS TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE FRMCS (FUTURE RAILWAY MOBILE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM) ON REGIONAL RAILWAYS.

These are R2DATO, focused on the digitalisation and technological automation of railway operations, and FutuRE, which aims to guarantee the long-term viability of this means of transport by reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO), among other aspects.

The R2DATO (Rail to Digital and Automated Train Operations) project adopts a different approach to meet the required increase in train capacity: while preserving the robustness and reliability of the railway system, it proposes the implementation of current and future innovations in digital technology and automation for developed operations, so that infrastructure managers and railway companies can implement them in a timely and cost-effective way.

FutuRE, on the other hand, is committed to revitalising regional railway lines to make them economically, socially and environmentally sustainable to meet the current needs and challenges of passengers. Its main objective is the reduction of TCO, as well as ensuring high service quality and operational reliability.

Both projects are part of the first call of Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking, an initiative of the European Commission to improve the sustainability of Europe’s railways and build a more attractive and resilient mode of transport.
