Alstom Spain’s Digital Services team has integrated the Driver Advisory System (DAS) into 90 Renfe high-speed trains.
The Driver Advisory System (DAS) is a platform that analyses the information on tracks, trains, and routes to provide efficient driving advice to the driver in real-time. The system aims to optimise energy consumption as much as possible while maintaining the programmed schedule.
Between 2015 and 2021, Alstom Spain’s Digital Services team integrated this platform on 90 high-speed trains in Renfe’s fleet. Years later, this technology brings the operator an average energy saving of 11% on each journey, with maximum savings of up to 15% compared to trains not equipped with this system. In addition to these benefits, efficient driving positively influences the passenger’s comfort and decreases the attrition of the train and its components.
Precise advice for each situation
Depending on its level of integration, the DAS system obtains information from the route, the operator’s transport plan, speed restrictions from the infrastructure manager and, in the most advanced cases, from other operators through the Rail Traffic Management Systems. This allows the establishment of efficient driving strategies, which are shown to the driver step by step. Whether through a monitor integrated into the cab or through a tablet, the driver receives all the information regarding the optimum speed, the driving mode, the estimated time of arrival, the next stations or when to start the speed reduction manoeuvre, among other aspects.
