Malaga hosted a new edition of Rail Live! from 29th November to 1st December 2022

THE EVENT HAD A CONGRESS PROGRAMME OF PRESENTATIONS AND SEMINARS WHERE THE NEW TRENDS IN RAILWAY TRANSPORT AND THE MAIN CHALLENGES OF THE FUTURE WERE ADDRESSED FOR THREE DAYS. DIGITALISATION OR SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY ARE SOME OF THE TOPICS DISCUSSED BY THE MORE THAN 256 PARTICIPATING SPEAKERS.

The 2022 edition had a participation of more than 1,300 attendees from more than 35 countries, more than 256 speakers and an exhibition area where more than 200 companies showcased their solutions and products.

Under the title “Digitalisation, sustainability and liberalisation. How to achieve a zero-carbon future”, the institutional opening of the event was carried out by Francisco de la Torre Prados, Mayor of Malaga, Marifrán Carazo, Minister of Development, Land Planning and Housing of the Junta de Andalucía and Raquel Sánchez, Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda on 30th November.

In addition, the event had the collaboration of Adif, Renfe, the Spanish Railways Foundation (FFE), the Spanish Railway Technology Platform, ICEX, Junta de Andalucía, Málaga City Council and Metro Málaga for its development. A full programme of participatory panels, conferences and round tables was presented. Administrations, companies, operators and experts once again shared experiences in a forum where aspects such as R+D, sustainability or safety had a particular importance. It is worth stressing that the agenda covered current issues for the future development of the industry, such as: integrated mobility, ticketing, energy and sustainability, IoT, BIM, digital and intelligent infrastructure, among others.

Among the main international speakers were executives from BVG (Germany), DB Netze (Germany), Metroselskabet (Denmark), Metropolitano de Lisboa (Portugal), Metro SNCF (France) and Swiss Federal Railways SBB (Switzerland), in addition to the participation of DG MOVE (European Commission), in the congress programme, among many others.

The event was also sponsored by Alstom, NGRT, Ineco, ABB, Indra, Stadler, Caf, Teltronic, MainRail, NRF, Siemens, voelstapine Railway Systems JEZ, Zitron, Thales, and Typsa among others.

The Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, defended the fundamental role of liberalisation to promote the use of the train to the detriment of other less sustainable means of transport, since the arrival of competition translates into “more competitive prices” and a greater offer in high speed, allowing it to be more accessible.

During her speech, Raquel Sánchez stressed that the train is “the great commitment” of the Ministry and one of the most powerful tools to advance in the decarbonisation of transport and the reduction of emissions, its “great priority”. In this sense, both the development of the railway network and the liberalisation and innovation are key levers to promote the modal shift thanks to the improvement of the supply and the quality of the service.

Mafex presented an intense agenda during Rail Live!

Mafex as co-organiser of the event presented an intense agenda of activities. In addition to the launch of the edition by VÍctor Ruiz, President of Mafex and Sean Willis, Managing Director of Terrapinn, the association introduced each of the panels that made up the programme of the “Symposium in Spanish” where the main collaborating entities of the event presented their developments and discussed the latest trends in the sector.

It is worth mentioning the panel “Solving needs and boosting competitiveness”. A dialogue where Garazi Carranza Ruiz de Loizaga, Head of Innovation and Competitiveness of Mafex, and Ángeles Tauler, PTFE Managing Director/Deputy Director of Strategy, Innovation and Training of the Spanish Railways Foundation spoke about railway innovation to boost the competitiveness of the sector.

In addition, in order to give visibility to the technological capabilities of the Spanish railway industry, Mafex organised an “Innovation tour” in the exhibition area. A guided tour of the stands of 12 exhibiting member companies that had the opportunity to showcase their product, prototype, technological solution or innovative service to the audience.

On the other hand, Pedro Fortea, General Director of the Association moderated the panel dedicated to the decarbornisation of the railway sector and what solutions are being carried out to combat the climate crisis together with the representatives of UNIFE, UIC, U.I.R.R., LTG Infra and Shift2Rail.

It is also worth noting the celebration at the Picasso Museum of the welcome to the main sponsors, exhibitors, speakers, congress delegates and collaborating entities that welcomed 400 guests and the arrangement of the traditional dinner of the railway industry that brought together more than 100 representatives of the attending companies and delegates of sectorial and business entities.
