Structural backfilling of reinforced concrete sleepers with Geoplus® resin injections

URETEK CARRIED OUT AN INTERVENTION FOR THE STRUCTURAL BACKFILLING OF REINFORCED CONCRETE SLEEPERS AT A RAILWAY STATION IN VENICE (ITALY).

With the transit of trains, vibrations and vertical fluctuations of the sleepers were produced, so it was necessary to offer a solution to this problem.

The intervention was necessary to restore the contact of a total of 81 prefabricated reinforced concrete sleepers with the underlying concrete slab. When the railway was unloaded, the block was in the highest position with respect to the concrete slab, while when the train passed over the blocks were lowered to the slab by more than 10 mm.

In the first phases of the injection, the water present between the sleeper itself and the slab in the ground was expelled.

After grouting, the sleeper was observed to move between 0,1 and 0,2 mm during the transit of a convoy. Before the intervention, the movements were up to 10 mm.

During the resin injection operations, a centesimal comparator was used to check the behavior of the structure with respect to vertical displacements. In addition, the entire procedure was monitored with a high-precision laser.
