Structural filling of railroad sleepers with resin injections

URETEK RESIN INJECTIONS MADE IT POSSIBLE TO FILL THE STRUCTURE OF AN ITALIAN TRACK AND THUS PREVENT VIBRATIONS FROM OCCURRING, CREATING A CORRECT CONTACT BETWEEN THE SLEEPER AND THE STRUCTURE.

Due to the presence of a gap between the sleeper and the metal structure of an Italian railway line, movements of several millimeters occurred between the sleeper and the rail, causing vibrations and vertical fluctuations.

Uretek was able to solve this problem thanks to its resin injections, which made it possible to fill the structure and thus prevent vibrations from occurring, creating a correct contact between the sleeper and the structure. This intervention was carried out on a total of 31 wooden sleepers.

The first thing that was done was to seal the perimeter, according to the morphology of the surfaces, using a specific product (special sealing putty). The resin was then injected through small holes drilled in the sleepers.

The whole process was controlled in real time by means of a centesimal comparator. During the resin injection operations, a centesimal comparator was used to check the behavior of the structure with respect to vertical displacements.

After injection, the sleeper was found to move between 1/10 and 2/10 mm during the passage of a convoy. Prior to the intervention, the movements were several millimeters.

In addition, the entire intervention was monitored with a high-precision laser.
