The port of Seville applies technology to the intelligent management of rail traffic

THE SEVILLE PORT AUTHORITY, IN COLLABORATION WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF SEVILLE AND THE TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES SERVIPORT AND THALES, HAS DEVELOPED A NEW CONCEPT FOR THE OPERATION AND AUTOMATION OF RAILWAY MANOEUVRES INSIDE THE PORT.

Ferroport System (FPS) is a digital tool that uses technological solutions to monitor railway operations in real time, in a controlled environment, at a maximum speed of 30 km/h and for freight or other trains without passengers.

By means of an operational support manager, this system allows traffic monitoring from a central command post; the launching of command orders for railway routes within the Port of Seville; and the processing, sharing and receiving of all the information from digital and conventional platforms.

Ferroport System combines virtual technology, new hardware developments for the deployment of decentralised field equipment and central equipment, and specific software with rail traffic control rules.

Thanks to automation, manual operation times are reduced and safety is increased throughout rail traffic, shortening reaction times in the event of possible incidents. Likewise, the tool allows an increase in the capacity to move trains at the same time, minimising risks, and favours coordination with all the links in the logistics chain.

The FPS technology designed in the Port of Seville is a benchmark for the port system and can be exported and adapted to other environments.
