The transport Electrification. Global rail operators, new mobility systems

por Patricia

IDOM IS DEVELOPING EUSKOTREN’S ELECTRIFICATION STRATEGY AND DESIGN TO TRANSFORM THE MOBILITY OF ITS LAND FLEET NETWORK.

Throughout its almost 40 years of existence, Euskotren has established itself as the transport operator in the Basque Country, satisfying people’s mobility needs by rail and cable car (Euskotren Trena), tram (Euskotren Tranbia), bus ( Euskotren Autobusa) and freight transit by rail (Euskotren Kargo).

Its mission is to promote sustainable urban and interurban mobility and the New electrification Plan contributes to its achievement.

IDOM is analyzing the maturity of electric technology in the bus sector and the alternatives available on the market (battery technology, autonomy, operating and electric recharging strategies, night vs. opportunity recharging systems), with the aim of designing and planning the operation of the new routes and electric buses. This analysis proposes a strategy of Progressive acquisition  Programme for the buses as the current fleet ages, proposing the lines on which to progressively implement the electric fleet. Likewise, with consumption calculation tools developed by IDOM REPS, the efficiency of energy consumption and the sustainability benefits of the chosen solution are analyzed.

After analyzing the currently available technology, an assessment was made of which of the technological alternatives is best suited to the metropolitan transport services provided by Euskotren under the Bizkaibus brand, and an analysis was made of the operation with the new electric buses.
